The Academy celebrated national Think Languages week this week with something for everyone, organised by the French department with the help of the fantastic TY Think Languages Champion Team. On Monday, TYs attended a talk by MTU student language ambassadors Lauren and Agnes and participated in a fun French football tournament. On Wednesday they organised a French scavenger hunt around the school for 3rd years, and attended a talk by Antoine Madiot from UCC.bA number of TYs also participated in a live national language and culture quiz, in conjunction with Languages Connect. On Thursday the TY Champion team organised a hugely successful French breakfast and quiz for 1st years. The food and spot prizes were kindly sponsored by Lidl Mallow and Dano’s Supervalu. The students also attended a Zoom call with past pupil Kenny Dunne, who is currently on Erasmus in Lyon. They enjoyed a French film and treats afternoon to round off a great week of activities which promoted the many benefits of studying languages.
On Friday, 3rd Years attended a very informative presentation by Catherine Jeanneau, Language Learning Hub Coordinator at the School of Languages and Applied Linguistics in UL. She was joined live on Zoom by Oisín, a current student of European Studies in UL and the students asked questions on his experience of life on campus and on his travels, as well as the benefits of studying languages and career opportunities.
