Congratulations to TY students Alan Giesche and Ciarán Fitzpatrick and their Safer Internet Day student ambassador team Darragh Carroll, Darragh Cotter, Ben Sheehan, Cillian Kelleher, Noel O’Connor and Iwo Skorlotowski, who won the Best Overall Campaign at this year’s Webwise Safer Internet Day National Awards.
Alan and Ciarán also received a Highly Commended Award in the Student Ambassador Leadership category.
The judges praised the inspiring and student-led campaign for its creativity, impact, and clear connection to Safer Internet Day themes. They were particularly impressed by the creativity and wide range of activities—such as the scavenger hunt, song compositions, posters, debates, publication in local media, and use of video — as well as the strong peer-to-peer approach. They also praised the amazing posters by students in the 5th year Art classes and described them as thought provoking works to inspire students to reflect on their behaviour online. They were also impressed with the “creative and engaging” lyrics of the music composed by our 1st, 2nd and 5th year music students for the campaign. The judges finished by saying “This campaign didn’t just educate—it united the school community under a shared goal of digital well-being – a truly exceptional example of Safer Internet Day in action.” The students received certificates and won a tablet for the school.
