The 1st year academy soccer team stormed into the Munster final today after overcoming St Marys Newport 1-0 in the town park Mallow. Against the wind and rain in the first half the academy held firm due to the heroics of MoM goalkeeper Dairmuid O’Riordan. A few tactical changes at half time saw Abraham Erhabor score the decisive goal. A neat over the top ball from Jamie Barry saw Erhabor clean through and he calmly dispatched in the town end goals. The academy then had a few chances to put the tie to bed but the Newport goalie was also in fine form. An outstanding block by Adam Kenny when Newport looked sure to score and an unbelievable fingertip save onto the post by O’Riordan saw the academy over the line after a nervy last 5 minutes. The academy now awaits the winners of Cashel and Midleton in the final.
